Old mill on the Greve Torrent – Scandicci, FLORENCE

This old mill is in close proximity to the ex-SIMS area, where De Vita & Schulze Architetti had designed a new urban community with dwellings and offices for the same client. The old mill is the focal point of the new pedestrian walkway and it overlooks the new public square. Inside the mill three apartments have been created on the first floor as well as seven executive lofts, a commercial space and a hall used by the Scandicci Municipal Council for cultural activities on the ground floor. The mill building is a very long and offers charming views of the river. The surrounding landscape was carefully studied prior to the renovation and transformation of the mill into offices and apartments. This transformation was accomplished without substantially altering the original spatial divisions or the distribution of doors and windows.
