RESTORATION WORK ON THE ROCCA ALDOBRANDESCA DI SOVANA (GR)

The restoration of the Rocca Aldobrandesca in Sovana proposes conservation activities. Starting from the survey of the fortress, a map of the degradation was drawn up in order to verify the state of alteration of the places, to be able to identify the problems and plan suitable recovery and consolidation interventions both from a qualitative and quantitative point of view. The preliminary operations involved a careful sampling of the materials in order to identify the types of mortars suitable for the additions and to be able to make timely additions of stone material. Following campaigns of cleaning and disinfestation from organisms, interventions were then provided for the recovery of masonry with unscrewed stitches for the mending of punctual lesions or disconnected portions, carried out with stone equal to the existing one and suitable mortar, removal operations of incongruous cementitious plasters and mortars, filling of punctual cracks on parts of facing and skiving and re-filling of joints. In addition, punctual additions of salvaged stone and surface consolidation of the wall faces were planned.
